ABOUT SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS ENGAGEMENT
Schools and Teachers Engagement provides central support, co-ordination and oversight of school’s engagement activities; supporting teacher CPD and driving initiatives to address the NI STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Agenda and transform attitudes in the take-up of STEM related subjects.
Faculty Engagement participated in the Enthuse programme in 2018 and 2019 where we offered teachers a vast choice of lectures and practical classes, tours of research laboratories and centres and offered opportunities to meet with researchers who are carrying out world leading research addressing some of the world’s greatest challenges in health, food and the environment.
Within Schools and Teachers Engagement, we provide opportunities for teacher CPD via conference day passes and for pupils to present their research within the poster presentation session of academic conferences.
Faculty Engagement supports researchers across the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Sciences to offer 4-6 week research projects for students during the summer holidays as part of the Nuffield Foundation. Research Placements give students the opportunity to experience real research and development projects.
As a signatory to the Understanding Animal Research’s s Concordat on Openness on Animal Research, Faculty Engagement organises and supports activities and interventions to inform and educate the public around the humane use of animals for medical research.
Staff from Academic Schools across the Faculty organise and deliver a wide range of activities and events within the Science Festival Schools Programme every year.
