NI Science Festival: Galapagos with Liz Bonnin: Evolution and Global Change

The Galapagos are famed as the biological wonderland where Darwin formulated 'The Theory of Natural Selection'. From finches to giant tortoises and beyond: Nature’s evolutionary toolbox was first identified on these islands. The Galapagos are still a remarkable melting-pot of biodiversity.  Liz Bonnin will present her experiences visiting the islands while developing a series on their natural history for BBC television. She will be joined by QUB academics from the School of Biological Sciences: Dr Jonathan Houghton, a marine biologist who works on the Galapagos today, will outline international efforts to preserve its rich underwater diversity; Professor Chris Allen will discuss how Darwin’s remarkable theory has led to exciting technologies that are delivering incredible innovations.
