Honorary Degrees Search Process

Overview:

The Honorary Degrees Committee annually seeks to identify potential nominees for the award of Honorary Degrees.

In general, Honorary Degrees are awarded to those who have achieved distinction and/or given significant service in one or more of a number of broad constituencies, such as Business and Commerce; the Arts; Education; Medicine; Science; Technology; Public Service; Sport; and Service to the Community.

Whilst it would be advantageous for potential recipients to have a Northern Ireland/Queen's connection, this is not a prerequisite. Ideally, an award should not only reflect positively on recipients in relation to their personal achievements, but should also raise the profile of the University and promote opportunities for the future development of strategic alliances.  Nominations are, therefore, particularly encouraged in respect of figures of international standing and eminence.

Accordingly, the Committee would be pleased to receive nominations for consideration in line with the process set out below:

(i) Staff in Directorates - nominations should be completed and forwarded to your Director / Vice-President for consideration by the UMB;

(ii) Staff in Faculties - nominations should be completed and forwarded to your Head of School/Faculty Office for consideration by the Faculty Executive Board;

(iii) All other nominations can be submitted using the nomination form.

All nominations should be forwarded to honorarydegrees@qub.ac.uk in the strictest confidence. Nominations are accepted throughout the year and will be considered by the Committee during the formal selection process. To assist the Committee in the selection process, it is important that the Nomination Form be completed as fully as possible. If you have recently submitted a nomination please contact us to ensure this has been received.

You may nominate more than one person and are encouraged to do so.  Anyone nominated should not be approached and all names forwarded to the Committee must be treated as strictly confidential.

Nominations should be forwarded to the University Secretary's Office, in the strictest confidence.
