Nominations
Each year, Queen’s recognises individuals who have made outstanding contributions to society locally, nationally and internationally with the award of Honorary Degrees. Nominations are welcome from any member of the Queen’s community.
Nominations are currently open and should be submitted by Tuesday, 18 March 2025.
About Honorary Degrees
In general, Honorary Degrees are awarded to those who have achieved distinction and/or given significant service in one or more of a number of broad constituencies, such as Business and Commerce; the Arts; Education; Medicine; Science; Technology; Public Service; Sport; and the Community.
Whilst it would be advantageous for potential recipients to have a Northern Ireland/Queen's connection, this is not a prerequisite. Ideally, an award should not only reflect positively on recipients in relation to their personal achievements, but should also raise the profile of the University and promote opportunities for the future development of strategic alliances.
Nomination Process
Nominations for Honorary Degrees should be made using the online nomination form.
Nominations are reviewed by the Honorary Awards Committee which has delegated responsibility from Senate to approve nominations. The Committee, at its discretion, may also approve the award of Chancellor’s Medals.
Once nominations are approved, offers are made to successful nominees. The names of those to receive Honorary Degrees will only be announced when offers have been accepted. Please note that the process from initial nomination to the conferral of an Honorary Degree can take up to 18 months.
