Queen’s University Belfast welcomes Tánaiste Simon Coveney
As part of the Queen’s University Policy Engagement Lecture Series, the Tánaiste joined a packed room of more than 300 people for meaningful discussion, engaged debate and open dialogue on ‘Maintaining the habit of Co-operation’.
Speaking about Brexit at the event, the Tánaiste said: “We want to make sure that UK withdrawal from the European Union doesn’t jeopardise the foundation of the shared, peaceful future for everyone on this island provided by the Good Friday Agreement. That is our agenda.”
Robin Swann gives Leader's Lecture at Queen's
Robin Swann, Leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, called for a unionism "not for sections or factions, but for all" for his Queen's Policy Engagement Leader's Lecture .
Mr Swann, noting the “immense” contribution of Queen’s to life here, took the opportunity to reflect on where Northern Ireland had come from - a deeply divided society - and where it might go in the future.
Sinn Féin Vice-President gives Policy Engagement Leader’s Lecture
Michelle O’Neill, Sinn Féin Vice-President and Northern leader, addressed the legacy of the Agreement of 1998 and the challenges of Brexit.
Ms O’Neill opened by noting the vital role the University plays in society, and added that the skills and acumen Queen’s fosters is crucial to attracting investment inward investment.
The Rt Hon Peter Robinson delivers lecture at Queen's
Former First Minister of Northern Ireland, the Right Honourable Peter Robinson, delivered his first public lecture at Queen's University Belfast.
The lecture, entitled: ‘Negotiating the way forward: restoring government in Northern Ireland’, was part of the Queen’s Policy Engagement (QPol) series at the University and his first public lecture as part of his honorary professorship at the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice.
