Engineers Ireland and Queen’s University Belfast, in association with The Institution of Engineering and Technology, welcomed Ms Marguerite Sayers, Executive Director of Customer Solutions at ESB, and President of Engineers Ireland, to give the 19th Annual Sir Bernard Crossland Lecture titled 'Switching on to the Energy Transition'.

The 18th Annual Sir Bernard Crossland Lecture was hosted at Riddel Hall by The Chief Executives' Club at Queen's University and Engineers Ireland as part of the NI Science Festival. Professor Frank Kirkland, Chief Designer of Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce gave an excellent address titled 'Excellence from Technology: The Rolls-Royce Trent Engine' to a capacity audience.

A world authority on combustion and acoustics, Dame Ann Dowling is President of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cambridge, where she was Head of the Department of Engineering 2009-14.
Professor Dowling explored the challenges and opportunities facing the engineering community of the UK in leaving the EU, and highlighted the importance of collaboration between universities, researchers and industry partners to both the new UK industrial strategy and the industrial strategy for Northern Ireland that is open for consultation until April. She commended the research and innovation strengths of Queen’s University.
