Images of Incoming is a photovoice project, directed by Prof Tess Maginess and coordinated by Dr Federica Ferrieri, engaging over 60 women based in Northern Ireland and Canada in a partnership between Queen’s University Belfast’s Open Learning, the University of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, and the University of Atypical for Arts and Disability in Belfast.

Coming from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures, from Africa to China to India and Pakistan, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Kosovo, Kurdistan, East Timor, and Mauritius, participants used photographs and commentaries (powerful, moving, inspiring, funny) to express their sense of belonging to, or alienation from, Northern Ireland, the place they now live in.

The projects were presented to the wider society on International Women’s Day 2023 at the Linen Hall Library.
