Origins of the Path to Sanctuary: Interview with Rev Dr Inderjit Bhogal

The University's Civic Engagement team had a stroke of good luck recently when Rev Dr Inderjit Bhogal, one of the two founders of the UK's City of Sanctuary movement, came to Queen's for the launch of a book by his friend Rev Harold Good.
Our University of Sanctuary Coordinator Maurice Macartney took the opportunity to interview him for a special episode of the Charter video series. During the conversation, Dr Bhogal spoke of his own family's experience of having to seek refuge, and recalled developing the idea of a City of Sanctuary in Sheffield in 2005, with his colleague Craig Barnett.
In the years since, the movement has grown to include not only Cities of Sanctuary, but also schools, libraries, health care trusts, and of course Universities of Sanctuary - a status Queen's publicly committed to pursuing in June 2024.
