Many Memories, Many Voices (MMMV) is for people living in Northern Ireland and Ireland to share memories, stories, and objects related to colonialism and the British Empire. It aims to support UN Sustainable Development Goal 16: promoting just, peaceful, and inclusive societies - by fostering equality, helping to combat racism, and promoting decolonisation. MMMV enables contributors to voice perspectives on these histories, using the Participant Auto-Ethnography method developed by the project, to explore the complex afterlives of empire, and how they shape social identities in Northern Ireland and Ireland today.
As part of the project, on 14 June 2024, the event "Communities, Inclusion, Decolonisation and Heritage" was organised at Belfast Central Library. The event aimed to bring together community members, museum and heritage professionals, and researchers from Northern Ireland and beyond to discuss key themes such as amplifying community voices, museum and heritage decolonisation, partnerships and collaboration, and inclusive and ethical practices.
