Native Scientists

Native Scientists is a European non-profit organization dedicated to promoting science education and bridging the gap between scientists and society, particularly through language.

At Queen's University, Dr Joana Sa Pessoa Graca Santos, a volunteer native scientist, embodies this mission by engaging with children from the Portuguese community in Northern Ireland (April 2024). In her native language, Portuguese, Joana introduces these young minds to the fascinating world of microbiology, inspiring the next generation with her expertise and passion for science.

By connecting children and scientists from the same migrant community, Native Scientists delivers science and language workshops that foster a sense of belonging and cultural pride, making science accessible and relatable to young learners.
