Develop Your Entrepreneurial Spirit with SU Enterprise

Medicine student Aksh discusses how SU Enterprise has aided him in his business ventures during his time at Queen's.

Starting a company, owning a startup, becoming a founder - these are the dreams of many young students. The greatest obstacle that hinders their path, however, is a lack of knowledge. The reason I know that is because I was in the same boat a few months ago – a first year student with a zeal for success, but no guidance and direction to follow.

SU Enterprise - a personalised approach

Students’ Union Enterprise is a part of Queen’s that is dedicated to personalising your approach to business. They organise events such as What’s the Big Idea and QUB Dragon’s Den which aim to instil creativity and entrepreneurial skills in the applicants. Furthermore, the 1-1 sessions are not to be missed. Offering critical and analytical insights into your business allows you to understand your strengths and weaknesses – giving you an area of focus to go on.

Moreover, by encouraging you to think differently by applying context shifting and customer understanding, you are forced to be creative and sharpen the edges of your business idea.

Great! Now that you have a better understanding of your idea, and customers and are more than convinced to pursue it, SU Enterprise will even put you in touch with the correct personnel. They have connections with very successful entrepreneurs all over the country who they can put you in touch with, in order to grow your idea and even raise funding for it.

Networking events

They even have them on from time to time to deliver talks at the Students’ Union, which serves as an immaculate source of perpetual inspiration. Personally, I was able to register myself for the Co–founders Event run by Catalyst in NI through the connections I made via SU Enterprise.

Apart from that, you get to meet various other like-minded individuals who are all working towards the same goal, which is extremely valuable as the saying goes, “Your network is your net worth”. I have formed long-lasting connections with the founders of “Socritique” and “Rephobia”, whose company and advice I seek regularly.

I would recommend the road of entrepreneurship to everyone out there, it’s a fulfilling and rewarding journey that allows you to solve problems for yourself and the world. More than that, if you do decide to pursue this path – I would highly recommend you do it with SU Enterprise by your side!

How SU Enterprise helped me

On my journey specifically, SU Enterprise has been of great help, specifically with customer research and product refining. My whole idea originated from my desire to transform education to fit the manner I would have deemed fit. This inherently led to a lot of biases and assumptions in my pursuit of product development.

Book a business 1-1

Following advice from SU Enterprise, I interviewed multiple prospective medical students, current medical students and other stakeholders such as parents and teachers in order to get a much broader understanding of the various pain points that students find in the process.

Through this, me and my team were able to isolate individual elements which would enable us to deliver the most innovative product as we enter a new market, ultimately SU guided us into mastering our MVP by reinforcing our priorities. SU Enterprise not only allows you to hone in on your product, but also provides the opportunity to compete for funding which can bring your vision to life.

What's the Big Idea?

In conclusion, this is the holistic manner in which SU Enterprise has helped me and my prospective business, Acceptify, proceed with caution and the right strategy at every step of the way. It truly is a holistic way of empowering and encouraging every student to fight for a cause or purpose they believe in.

Even if after reading this, you feel startups just don’t float your boat but are still genuinely passionate about a topic or activity, you can always approach SU to build a student led club around it. They even provide the necessary resources needed to get it up and running.
