As a busy medical student, committing to a permanent part-time job contract simply isn’t feasible given my schedule. Therefore, I have had to search for other ways I can make extra cash which do not require much effort or time. Here are some of my top recommendations for ways you can earn money as a student!

Work for Queen’s University Belfast

Many students forget to sign up for QWORK, a brilliant platform for finding part-time or temporary jobs at Queen’s. I have worked at offer holder days, graduation ceremonies and as a catering assistant through QWORK and the application process is incredibly straightforward.

Get involved in open days and other university events!

Additionally, Queen’s jobs are flexible and getting paid is simple, with weekly timesheets being generated by staff into which you submit your hours. Working for your university is a great way to meet new people and network with members of various faculties and so I’d highly recommend creating a QWORK profile!

Become a student ambassador

Alongside my studies, I work as a student ambassador. This is a great job for anyone who enjoys working with guests and prospective students. If you like content creation, there are plenty of opportunities within this job as student ambassadors write blog posts, film videos and are photographed for promotions!

Become an extra in local TV/film productions

Tutoring

Tutoring is a great way to make money while also making a difference to someone’s education. Personally, it’s my favourite way to make money as the job is flexible and rewarding. Finding students isn’t difficult if you know where to search!

I use Facebook to advertise my services and also a platform called MedicMind, which links students to tutors from various universities across the UK. MedicMind is a brilliant platform as they provide all tutoring resources and run remote tutoring, allowing you to work from the comfort of your own home.

Make money and make a difference!

Note: bear in mind that some tutoring companies try to take a huge chunk of your earnings for using their platforms, or try to scam tutors by charging for additional services like AccessNI or DBS checks. Always make sure to read the terms and conditions before committing to a platform!

Sell old revision notes and textbooks

If you have old GCSE or A-Level notes lying around your house, scanning them and creating PDF copies to sell on platforms like Etsy is a great way to make some extra cash! An easy way to generate more sales is to create ‘bundles’ of notes, for example, selling an entire module’s worth of revision material in one package. If you tutor, you could sell notes to your students and provide a unique discount!
