Queen’s University Belfast offers a wide range of postgraduate opportunities for anyone looking to further their studies. From arts and humanities to business, engineering, and science, there’s a programme to suit your goals. With over 100 taught master’s degrees, professional qualifications, and research options available, Queen’s has something for everyone—whether you’re aiming for academia, industry, or public sector roles.

The Postgraduate Study Week

During the week, students had the chance to meet with faculty representatives to explore their next steps and attend masterclasses for a taste of postgraduate study. On Monday, I chatted with current students at the Junction Café about life as a master's student. It was a valuable experience as I could ask practical questions, like the workload, that aren't always covered elsewhere. There was also the opportunity to speak with the student finance team to understand available funding for different courses. Below, I’ve summarised some key insights from those conversations about fees and funding.

Later that day, I attended a Nursing information session at the MBC, where current students and subject experts discussed various pathways into medicine. On Tuesday, the Dean of Graduate Studies hosted a midday tea in the Graduate School, featuring faculty stalls where I explored course options from different schools. That evening, the Business School held an overview event showcasing its postgraduate offerings, followed by a tour of the new Business School facilities.

On Wednesday, I joined a tour of the Graduate School. Despite walking past the building daily, I’d never been inside, and the tour gave useful context about the learning environment. Throughout the day, events hosted by the Computer Science School, School of Dentistry, and sustainability-focused courses provided insights into their programs. Later, I attended a "Funding Your Degree" seminar at One Elmwood, which was incredibly helpful for understanding available financial support.

Throughout the week, representatives of postgraduate study were available in the Students' Union, offering a flexible and convenient way to gather information during breaks between classes.

Queen’s offers taught programmes that combine academic excellence with practical skills, including qualifications such as PgCert, PgDip, PGCE, MSc, MA, and MBA. Applying is straightforward—postgraduate taught applications open in the autumn, while research applicants should contact potential supervisors before submitting their application.

Charlotte Jennings

Politics and International Relations | Undergraduate Student | London, England

I'm a Politics and International Relations student at Queen's. I am from London and currently live in student housing but lived in Elms BT9 last year. I love to be a busy person and am a member of multiple societies and teams at Queen's.

I am also undertaking a charitable project at Queen's called the Zambia project where we host fundraisers in order to collect money and aid for our missionary trip to Zambia. In my spare time I teach water sports in Bangor and so far I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Belfast even though it is very different to London. I would highly recommend the university to anyone as I have had the best experience here so far and have fallen in love with this country.
