The Best Lunch Spots Around Queen's Campus
Looking for some lunch inspo in between classes? Check out Ghada's recommendations below.
Hi there, I’m Ghada Al Fakih, a Lebanese Clinical Health Psychology MSc student at Queen’s University Belfast. As a Lebanese, I prioritised accessing healthy and flavourful food as I blended into life in Belfast. I've spent countless hours exploring the city's culinary scene, especially when I didn’t get the chance to have my home cooked meals at hand.
Between lectures and study sessions, I've discovered various lunch spots that offer delicious food and a respite from the academic grind. Here are my top picks for the best lunch spots near campus.
Bunsen
First on my list is Bunsen. This place is a haven for beef burger lovers. Their menu is simple, but every item is executed to perfection. The beef patties are juicy and full of flavour, sandwiched between soft buns that are just the right amount of chewy. Pair your burger with their crispy hand-cut fries and you've got yourself a meal that will keep you satisfied for hours.
Maggie Mays
Next is Maggie Mays, a classic spot that serves up the comfort of unbeatable fish and chips. The fish, always fresh, is coated in a light, crispy batter that's a perfect match for the tender, flaky fish. The chips, thick-cut and fried to a golden brown, are the ultimate comfort food. It's a meal that's sure to bring a smile to your face and warm your heart.
Boojum
If you are willing to spice things up, the famous Boojum, a renowned Mexican fast-food chain in Northern Ireland, is a delightful yet a bit of a healthier option. You can choose to indulge in a burrito, a burrito bowl, quesadillas, and their extravagant nachos coupled with their various salsas and guacamole. Unleash your creativity with all the different customisation options.
Umi Falafel
Umi is a must-visit for those who prefer a lighter, more health-conscious lunch. Their Mediterranean-inspired menu offers a variety of flavourful and filling falafel wraps and salads. The falafel is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with herbs and spices that delight every bite.
Eco Fresh
Eco Fresh is another excellent option for a quick, healthy lunch. Here, you can customise your salad with various fresh ingredients. They also offer bubble tea, a refreshing beverage that's the perfect end to a light, satisfying meal.
Orto
If you're in the mood for Italian, Orto is the place to go. Their menu features a range of pasta dishes, pizzas, and salads, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere is cosy and inviting, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a leisurely lunch.
Cuban Sandwich Factory
The Cuban Sandwich Factory serves the best Cuban sandwiches in town. This quaint spot is known for its perfectly toasted bread that provides a satisfying crunch with every bite. Inside, the sandwich is filled with a delectable combination of ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard, creating a symphony of flavours that are both rich and refreshing.
Whether grabbing a quick lunch between classes or seeking a late-night snack, this Cuban sandwich place is a must-try for all food enthusiasts.
Union Bar
Don't forget to check out the Union Bar at the Students' Union in One Elmwood. It's a popular spot for students to grab a bite, drink, and unwind. The menu offers a variety of pub-style food, and the prices are student-friendly.
Oishi
Oishi is one of the freshest sushi restaurants in Belfast. Their sushi is always fresh and beautifully presented. Whether you're a sushi connoisseur or a newbie, Oishi is sure to impress.
Tesco Express
If you find yourself at the end of the month tight on your budget, and don’t want to spend a fortune on lunch, I've got you! Grabbing a meal deal at Tesco can be very filling and satisfying. Make sure to grab a protein shake as your drink, a sandwich, and a snack of your choice.
Al Gelato
These are just a few superb lunch spots near Queen's University Belfast. As a food lover myself, I can attest that Belfast's culinary scene is as diverse and vibrant as its academic community. So, next time you're looking for a place to eat, try one of these spots.
And if you have a sweet tooth, don’t forget to have Al Gelato for dessert; they serve authentic high quality homemade gelatos of very artisanal flavours. You won't be disappointed!
