Constant learning

“What I enjoy most about studying Computer Science is the constant learning. The field is always evolving, which keeps me engaged every day as there’s always something new to discover. It sparks my curiosity and excitement about what’s happening in technology, and it helps me stay adaptable as I continuously update my skills and knowledge. The dynamic nature of the course ensures that I’m always learning and growing.”

Varied curriculum

“I love how varied Psychology is, every week we are learning a completely different topic. It makes it feel really interesting. I also love the scientific rigour of the department, all our lecturers are experts in their field and are conducting such interesting research.”

Pursuing passions

“What I enjoy most about International Business with French is the fact that I can combine my passion for French with a diverse range of modules in Business. Being a lover of travelling, I enjoy learning about the culture in France, the different regions and the history behind the country. I like the fact that my French classes are in smaller groups of people, compared to Business, it allows all of us to speak to our peers and teachers/lecturers. In Business, I enjoy the variety of modules and that we could choose what to do in our second year of studies. Some of the assignments I actually find quite enjoyable too.”

State-of-the-art facilities

“I really enjoy that with Midwifery you’re never going to learn everything and you are constantly learning. There is always something new to learn or update your learning. I love the facilities in the MBC, I love the simulations in the Intersim suite and how real it feels.”

Charlene Spence

Charlene Spence, Midwifery, NI

Meeting like-minded people

“My peers are incredible, in secondary school I felt alone in my interests, and I was hoping that university would allow me to meet like-minded people, which I have. Being around creative people invigorates my own creativity, seeing my peers experiment also inspire me. The faculty is also incredible, in Broadcast Production I have particularly been inspired by Frank Delaney. He has such an impressive ability to convey complex ideas in simple sentences and will invite you to be experimental, which I haven't ever experienced before in my academic life.”

Andrew Atkinson

Andrew Atkinson, Broadcast Production, NI

Friendly teaching staff

“I love our materials, engaging with movies and short films in class or for class genuinely makes all of our learning so much easier! Our lecturers and seminar/workshop teachers are really friendly (and funny) which makes class really fun and enjoyable! And of course, the people, I love all the people I’ve met in my classes.”

Research opportunities

“It integrates studying human anatomy with opportunities to work with people. I loved science, but didn't necessarily see myself in a lab for the rest of my life. There will be opportunities to be involved in leading research and I have a particular interested in identifying and improving national healthcare inequalities.”

Chloe Watterson

Chloe Watterson, Human Biology, NI

Module flexibility

“The flexibility of my modules, the variety of literature I am able to study, and the friends I make on my course. I also like learning about and being able to practise my creative writing. The friendly teachers and lecturers are also a bonus.”

Cheri Botha

Cheri Botha, English with Creative Writing, South Africa

Tutorial discussions

“Definitely tutorials - actually being able to talk through problems in a group and thinking about the actual physics behind them has been so fascinating. I think I'd feel much more lost without them.”

Amy Furlonger

Amy Furlonger, Physics with Spanish, England

New concepts

“What I enjoy most about my software engineering course is the opportunity to learn new things every day. Coming into university with no prior experience in coding, I initially found it challenging, but the support from my lecturers helped me work through those struggles. Over time, I’ve come to truly enjoy the process. From experimenting with different programming languages to adapting to the fast pace of learning new concepts, it’s been a rewarding journey.”

Up to date teaching

“I love how current the study of International Relations and Politics is, we could come in one week and have completely new examples of the ideas and theories we are studying, I also feel it is so important to be informed about what is going on in the world, and politically what is constantly shifting.”

Collaborative learning environment

“The blend of cutting-edge research and industry-oriented learning really excites me. I also appreciate the collaborative learning environment at Queen’s, where students and professors are always open to discussing new ideas. The upcoming industrial placement is another aspect I’m eagerly looking forward to—it’s a fantastic opportunity to apply what I’ve learned in a real-world setting and gain experience that will shape my future career.”

Welcoming and approachable lecturers

“The lecturers are amazing—they’re not only highly professional but also incredibly approachable and understanding. Besides the academic knowledge I have gained from them, I also feel a sense of being understood. The fact is that I am a non-native, therefore in some cases, language still be my barrier, but all of the professors made me realise that it's okay if I do not understand, just accept and ask questions.”
