In March 2023, Queen’s University, in collaboration with DiverseYouthNI and supported by BBC Children in Need, launched the Black History Tellers project. This initiative empowered young participants to explore and share the untold stories of Black communities in Northern Ireland. Through a series of workshops and storytelling events, the youth involved gained a deeper understanding of their heritage, developed public speaking and narrative skills, and learned to express their identities with confidence. 

As part of the project, the young participants were trained as producers, directors, runners, and cameramen and camerawomen. This hands-on experience allowed them to take on crucial roles in the production process, enhancing their skills and giving them a unique perspective on storytelling.

The culmination of the project was a launch event where the participants presented their stories, shedding light on the contributions, challenges, and resilience of Black individuals in the region. The experience not only highlighted their voices but also fostered greater awareness and appreciation of Black history in Northern Ireland, promoting diversity and inclusion across the region.
