Watch! Debunk! Act!
Watch! Debunk! Act!
The Watch! Debunk! Act! aims to fuse biomedical science and creative ethnography, bringing eye health education to life through the captivating lens of photodiaries and stories crafted by vision-impaired individuals and turning them into recorded drama. Using the power of drama, Ving Fai Chan and Maruška Svašek are challenging stigma associated with wearing spectacles and debunking harmful eye health practices.
This project (March 2024 – October 2025) is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s Impact Acceleration Account scheme and is a collaborative project of the Centre for Public Health and Centre for Creative Ethnography Centre for Creative Ethnography at Queen’s University Belfast, and award-winning Zanzibari arts group, Tausi Women Taarab. Watch! Debunk! Act! is committed to strengthening partnerships between researchers and artists to focus on the transformative pillars of health, education, and social systems. Our goal is to ensure equitable access to eye care and opportunities for the vulnerable populations, transcending traditional roles by empowering partners as integral team members.
