Professor Lesley Anderson is a Chair in Health Data Science at the Aberdeen Centre for Health Data Science, University of Aberdeen. She trained at Queen's University Belfast (QUB) graduating with a PhD in cancer epidemiology in 2004 and an undergraduate degree (first class Honours) in Biomedical Science in 2001. She has a Masters in Population Health-based Evidence obtained from the University of Manchester (distinction level) in 2006. Lesley has over 20 years’ experience in research utilising healthcare data from the United Kingdom, Ireland, USA and Europe. She has established international partnerships with researchers in the USA, Europe and Australia to research myeloproliferative neoplasms and has published many scientific publications (Professor Lesley Anderson | Staff Profile | People | The University of Aberdeen (abdn.ac.uk). Lesley has always been interested in why people get sick and what can be done to prevent this. She is leading the MOSAICC study to help answer the many questions raised by MPN patients, their family members and healthcare professionals about the causes of MPNs |

Dr Charlene McShane is a Lecturer in Cancer Epidemiology at Queen's University Belfast (QUB). She obtained her PhD in Cancer Epidemiology from QUB in 2015, and a first class Honours degree in Biomedical, Health and Life Sciences at University College Dublin in 2011.Charlene's research interests include preventing cancer and detecting cancer earlier. She is particularly interested in blood cancers having completed her PhD on multiple myeloma. Charlene leads the MOSAICC study at QUB | |
Dr. Nouf Abutheraa is a research fellow at the University of Aberdeen and has joined the MOSAICC study in July 2021. She developed a mixed-method reseach portfolio using her experience in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the quality of care in healtcare settings. Nouf is a registered pharmacist in Saudi Arabia, where she obtained her BSc in Pharmaceutical Science before her relocation to Scotland to obtain both her MSc and PhD from the University of Strathclyde. Prior to her appointment as a senior pharmacist in 2018, she worked in community and hospital pharmacy settings and collaborated with universities inside and outside the UK. |

Dr Therese Kearney joined the MOSAICC study in March 2021. Prior to this Therese has managed various large cancer research projects including the Northern Ireland arm of the International Cancer Benchmarking Partnership-Module 4 which investigated the delays in diagnosis and treatment of breast, ovarian, lung and colorectal cancers and the Life After Prostate Cancer Diagnosis study, which was the largest patient reported outcomes study in the world investigating the quality of life of men living with prostate cancer. Therese has a keen interest in public health research, particularly in the prevention of non-communicable diseases and the improvement of quality of life. Therese studied Food and Nutrition at undergraduate and completed a PhD in Nutrition and Exercise. |

Ms karolyn Gaston is a highly educated and successful business services professional with a wealth of transferable skills gained in the public, private, charity and voluntary sectors. Over the past two years, Karolyn has gained valuable research experience working on the MOSAICC Study - a UK-wide, 21 site, case-control study - and has a proven ability to generate and maintain working relationships and engage with key stakeholders such as charities, researchers, healthcare practitioners and patient representatives.
Karolyn has experience in leading communications, management of collaborative projects, management of project protocols and associated materials, development of an online patient interview system, conducting qualitative and quantitative research, patient recruitment, online interviews with patients and fundraising initiatives.
Karolyn’s has a passion for volunteering and has gained invaluable experience over the past 30 years volunteering including two Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, the Prince’s Trust and is an active Action for Happiness group leader. In addition, Karolyn is a member of various professional and volunteering bodies including International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE), Volunteer Now, Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Belfast and British Titanic Societies |

Ms Ewelina Bieszczad obtained her BSc in Dietetics in Poland in 2015 and relocated to Scotland the same year. Afterwards, she undertook MSc in Human Nutrition at the University of Aberdeen and graduated with commendation in 2019. Ewelina expresses an interest in a wide range of public health research, including autoinflammatory conditions, metabolic diseases and cancer research. Her career goal is to contribute to improving health and quality of life for a range of populations. |

Ms Emma Tarburn is a PhD student at the University of Aberdeen working on the MOSAICC study. She obtained a first-class honours degree in Biomedical Science from the Robert Gordon University in 2019. She has a background as a molecular scientist performing Sanger Sequencing, Next Generation Sequencing and Bioinformatics of microbiological samples and has collaborated on a number of public health projects. Emma is particularly interested in risk factors for blood cancer and disease progression and hopes to contribute to research that improves patient outcomes and quality of life. |
