In July 2024, Dr Joseph Kane, a Clinical Academic Lecturer within the Ageing Research Interest Forum, was appointed Chair of ISTAART’s Lewy Body Dementias Professional Interests Area (PIA). 

Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) is the second most common form of dementia after Alzheimer’s disease, yet it is often misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed and remains under-researched. The aim of the PIA is to raise awareness about LBD among both the general public and healthcare professionals, while also promoting global collaboration to enhance research efforts.
