Memory Service Patient and Public Involvement Group
In April 2024, researchers from the Centre for Public Health at Queen’s University Belfast, along with staff from the Belfast Trust, were awarded a Pump Priming Award from Alzheimer’s Research UK. This funding enabled the establishment of a Geriatrician-led Memory Service Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Group, which will support research studies aimed at improving cognitive health in older adults across the UK. The formation of this group will provide a highly valuable resource for research teams in this field and ensure that research aligns with the population’s wishes.
Recruitment is now under way for patients attending Geriatrician-led Memory Clinics based at the Belfast Trust, along with their families.
Involved in funding application: Rebecca Egerton, Dr Emma Cunningham, Professor Bernadette McGuinness, Dr Katherine Patterson (Centre for Public Health, Queen’s University Belfast; Belfast Trust)
First meeting of the Memory Service Patient and Public Involvement Group
We successfully held our first Memory Service Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Meeting on Monday 17th February 2025, at Malone Lodge Hotel Belfast. This group consists of patients attending local geriatrician-led Memory Clinics, and their families. We had a total of 7 participants join us. At the meeting, we discussed a research study currently being planned for those attending memory clinics. We look forward to holding our next meeting in the summer time. If anyone would like any of their work discussed, please contact us.
