Oral Health Care
An important research strand of the Health Services and Global Health Research Group focuses on the needs of older people with oral health problems and it is led by Dr Gerry McKenna, Clinical Reader in CPH and Consultant in Restorative Dentistry in the QUB Centre for Dentistry. Current key studies include: Improving the Oral Health of Older People in Care Homes (TOPIC): Using role-substitution in care homes to improve Oral Health (SENIOR): ; Development of a core outcome set for Oral Health Services Research involving Dependent Older Adults (DECADE): (website under construction); and eCampus for Dental Education supporting multidisciplinary team-based learning and evidence-based treatment planning https://www.edemtet.eu. Dr McKenna exemplifies approaches widely adopted in HS&GHRG and CPH such as the establishment of the BElfast oLder persOn’s patient and public iNvolvement Group (BELONG) in order to facilitate meaningful PPI.
