This paper will discuss the re-interpretation of a room at Castletown House based on research into portraiture and the lives of lesser-known individuals in the history of this heritage site. The talk will evaluate the role of primary historical research at the Office of Public Works (National Historic Properties) and its support for the Centre for the Study of Historic Irish Houses and Estates. It will also consider the Castletown Foundation's educational remit and the dynamics of re-imagining elite, Irish interiors for public audiences.
