A team from the Centre for Shared Education led by Professor Joanne Hughes (Dr Gavin Duffy, Prof Tony Gallagher, Prof Ruth Leitch) and the Education Authority in NI (Seamus Bradley, Paul Close) working with Dr Edona Maloku (SCI Fellow in CSE and former Deputy Minister of Education in Kosovo) brought together over 30 teachers and school principals from the Albanian and Serb communities of Kamenica, Kosovo to explore the potential for developing a shared education initiative in the Municipality.

In addition to an intensive three day workshop with the school representatives (4-6 June), the team was hosted by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the Mayor and Deputy Mayors of Kamenica, Kadri Rahimaj and Aleksandra Jovanoviq, the UK Ambassador, Jonathan Hargreaves, and met with the OSCE Ambassador, Michael Davenport, the Dean and Vice Deans of the Faculty of Education at the University of Pristina, Blerim Saqqipi and Blerta Perolli Shehu.

The shared education initiative in Kosovo has arisen from a longstanding collaboration between CSE and Dr Maloku. It follows a successful official visit by the PM and his team to a shared education partnership in Belfast earlier this year.
