Disruption, Crisis, Opportunity: Whither Democratic Governance?
14-15 December 2020
IPSA Colloquium of Research Committees RC14 Politics and Ethnicity, RC28 Comparative Federalism and Multilevel Governance, RC13 Democratization in Comparative Perspective, RC08 Legislative Specialists, RC30 Comparative Public Policy
Hosted by the HAPP Centre for the Study of Ethnic Conflict
This event wil take place online 14 – 15 of December and aims to examine the challenges faced by democracies and non-democratic regimes in the light of a sequence of interrelated political, economic, and social disruptions.
Over the past two decades, European societies have experienced a series of disruptive events to what was at the time considered the regular way of life: Covid-19, global financial crisis, increasing global population mobility, and 9/11 to name a few. How have international organizations, national, regional, local level authorities responded to acute challenges, and have these actually made a difference? How have democratic institutions responded to citizens’ needs?
The colloquium is open for participants without papers; you must register in order to receive the event link.
