Data and maps

The PopChange project has produced a range of datasets. These include:

1km by 1km grid squares covering all of Britain containing a host of population and housing variables (including age group, housing tenure, overcrowding, country of birth, and many others) for each Census from 1971 to 2011 inclusive. The generation of the grids is described in an journal article.

The 1km gridded data are available via the UK Data Service.

Lower layer super output (LSOA) (standard geographical areas) data for England 

Data on housing by LSOAs for 1971 to 2017 can be visualised using a web-based mapping tool.
