UCPH
University of Copenhagen (UCPH)
University of Copenhagen (UCPH) is the largest institution of research and education in Denmark and contains one of the largest health and life science centers in northern Europe. UCPH is a member of IARU (International Alliance of Research Universities; http://www.iaruni.org/).
The mission of Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences (PLEN; plen.ku.dk/english/about/) at UCPH is to stimulate fundamental research and the synergy between basic and applied research in biology and environmental science. The REMEDIATE ETN activities will be hosted by the Section for Genetics and Microbiology (plen.ku.dk/english/research/genetics_microbiology/), but activities will also take place at the Section for Environmental Chemistry and Physics (plen.ku.dk/english/research/env_chem_phys/). Specifically, the REMEDIATE PhD fellows will benefit from technical support and scientific expertise within the following research groups at the two participating sections (see homepages for details):
Environmental Microbiology (microbe-pollutant interactions in contaminated soils, microbial community ecology)
Metal-Microbe Interactions (metal toxicity, resistance and homeostasis in bacteria, metal bioavailability as determined by the environmental application of recombinant whole-cell bacterial biosensors)
Microbial Interactions (microbe-plant interactions)
Environmental Chemistry (soil remediation of metals and chemical metal analyses)
