UDE
University of Duisburg-Essen
Founded in 2003 by merging two formerly independent universities, the University of Duisburg-Essen occupies a respectable high-ranking position among the 40 German universities known for their research – as measured by the amount of financial support granted by DFG.
The Centre for Water and Environmental Research (ZWU) is dedicated to the interdisciplinary conception, management and transfer of research with a strong focus in on the development of long-term sustainable, economically conducive, socially acceptable & ecologically reliable innovations. Role: UDE will recruit 1 ESR, lead WP 2, and host a Summer School.
One priority area of UDE is the research field “Urban Systems” with “water and environment” as one of the main focuses. In one of the largest urban agglomerations in Europe, which was shaped historically by coal mining and steel-production, scientists, engineers, urban planners, economists and social scientists are investigating the future of urban systems and working to elaborate – and implement – feasible and sustainable concepts for developing human environments.
In this connection, Professor Dr. Torsten C. Schmidt’s research group maintains GC-MS, LC-MS, GC-IRMS and LC-IRMS for the quantification of pollutants and stable isotope analysis of water and soils.
