Declan Owens is an environmental lawyer who studied law at Trinity College Dublin, BPP Law School and the University of Amsterdam. Declan practised as a lawyer in London and worked for international organisations such as the International Trade Union Confederation. He returned to Ireland in 2021 to set up Ecojustice Ireland, a Community Interest Company, to advocate for a Just Transition on the island.
Ecojustice Ireland has a mission to use the collective power of trade unions and local communities to power the Just Transition. It also seeks to convey the potential for ecojustice to be achieved through the arts as a medium that can use emotional resonance and positive imagery to help address the climate and ecological crisis. Declan is a member of the Environmental Justice Network Ireland and an expert on the Rights of Nature for the UN's Harmony with Nature agency,
