HYFE

Principal Investigator             Professor L McGarvey

Name of the Study:                 HYFE

Why is this Study important?

Chronic cough is a very common clinical problem that is experienced by a large number of people and is a condition that can last for many years.  It remains a difficult problem to treat by doctors because there is at present very poor understanding of what causes this condition of chronic cough.

What is the Research question/aim?

Determine the feasibility of using a smartwatch application-based cough monitor to measure the pattern of cough in patients with chronic cough. Also, to measure the daily pattern of cough counts in patients with refractory chronic cough attending a specialist cough clinic.

What the Study involves:

Participants will be studied over a 4-week period with 2 visits to the Research Centre. The participants will wear a smartwatch over the 4 week period, which will measure the frequency and pattern of cough in participants with refractory chronic cough.

Who can take part in the Study?

Otherwise healthy patients with chronic cough (refractory or unexplained).
