Visual Function DR Study

NICRF_Logo_220W

Principal Investigator:

Dr Ruth Hogg, Queen's University Belfast

Name of the Study:

Visual Function DR

Why is this Study important?

Patients with diabetes are encouraged to attend annual screening appointments at which signs of Diabetic retinopathy are assessed. Attending these and other follow-up appointments is time-consuming and can be inconvenient – home-monitoring through the OKKO app could help alleviate this problem and provide greater flexibility in managing individuals care.

What is the Research question/aim?:

Using game-based technology to determine the clinical utility of the OKKO Health app as a home-monitoring tool for patients with DR (Diabetic Retinopathy) through demonstration of clinical validity and the feasibility of home use.

What the Study involves:

Participants will answer some questions relating to their general health prior to establishing whether they are long or short-sighte. Two sets of Visual Function tests will be carried out using the relevant equipment at the NICRF and some other tests will involve the OKKO Health App. No tests require direct eye contact and rests can be provided.

Who can take part in the Study?

A mixture of healthy volunteers, participants with Diabetes (DR stage 0 or 1), and other patients who meet the relevant criteria.
