Our Research
Investigating intergroup relationships in both laboratory and every day life contexts allows to advance the understanding of key processes of broad relevance to social contexts, as well as testing fundamental theories of social psychology and other disciplines. Our research projects are being funded or have been founded by multiple prestigious sources such as the Engineering and Physical Research Council, the UK Research & Innovation Council, or the European Commision's Horizon 2020 Research & Innovation Programme.
Professor Turner’s interest in intergroup contact and prejudice looking at predictors and outcomes of different forms of intergroup contact in reducing prejudice, including cross-group friendships led to her involvement in a channel 4 documentary on racism in Schools.
“Tests have revealed that children as young as six are aware of racial differences but, as a society, we do not talk about them and often take a colour-blind approach to race. Is our failure to discuss race part of the problem? This ground-breaking experiment will look at if it is possible to eradicate bias”.
