Welcome to
Global Intellectual Property and Technology Centre (G-IPTech)

Directors Welcome

Prof Giancarlo Frosio

As we navigate the ever-evolving nexus of law, technology, and intellectual property, our mission at the Global Intellectual Property and Technology (G-IPTech) Centre is to provide a research hub that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, practical application, and global perspective. We are aware that the rapid evolution of technology is continuously challenging traditional legal frameworks. New areas such as Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, data protection, green economy, and platform regulation, along with the transformative impact of digital technologies on traditional IP categories, require our constant attention and scholarly input.

This need to constantly evolve and stay ahead is the driving force behind the establishment of the G-IPTech Centre. The Centre aims to be a platform where legal scholars, practitioners, and policymakers can discuss, analyse, and understand the emerging legal implications of technological advancement. We are committed to fostering research clusters that delve into cutting-edge issues at the intersection of technology, intellectual property, and the law, and creating knowledge that can inform policy and practice at both local and international levels.

But the scope of our work goes beyond the global. We are also passionate about contributing to the growth and development of our local economy with emphasis on creative and high-tech industries and the Belfast Region City Deal's focus on technology and innovation.

We also have a strong commitment to our students and the next generation of legal scholars and practitioners. Through our LLM in IP law and LLM in law and technology, we aim to create an engaging environment that inspires and nurtures talent and interest in these rapidly evolving fields.

As we embark on this exciting journey, we invite you to explore our website, learn about our research projects, engage with our events, and connect with our experts. Whether you're a student, a scholar, a practitioner, a policymaker, or simply someone interested in the legal aspects of technology and intellectual property, we believe you will find the resources and insights offered by the G-IPTech Centre valuable.

I am thrilled to welcome you to our Centre and excited about the possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead.
