Aims and Objectives
Aims and Objectives
The aim of the project is to repeat the surveillance carried out in CONCORD-1 study, but with a much expanded representation of countries from around the globe, and an expanded group of cancer sites. It will cover 10 cancers in adults (stomach, colon, rectum, liver, lung, breast (women), cervix, ovary, prostate and leukaemia), and childhood leukaemia, with data from 160 or more cancer registries from 50 countries on patients diagnosed during the period 1995-2009 or later.
Where possible, information on stage of cancer at diagnosis will be collected for the first time in CONCORD in order to investigate in more depth the reasons for the inequalities in survival between different countries. The objectives will be similar to CONCORD-1 study, namely, ensuring that data are cleaned, validated and analysed in a standard manner, so that meaningful comparisons between countries follow. A more recent statistic net survival will be estimated in preference to relative survival.
