When invited to do a residency at Belfast’s Sonic Lab, the Copenhagen-based duo Czajka & Puchacz (Kaja Draksler on piano and keyboards & Szymon Gąsiorek on drums, vocal, and electronics) immediately knew they want to expand the group by inviting the brilliant musician/programmer Gianluca Elia to join them. Together, they wish to explore the electro-acoustic possibilities of the Sonic Lab. The acoustic sounds produced by the duo will be manipulated by Elia, who, rather than creating an illusion of a sound field, plans to use the vast multichannel spatialization system as an ensemble of independent sources. Such a multiplicity of voices can then act as a device to deconstruct the duo’s sounds and provide a variety of points of view on them.
