Academic Development Fellowships
Academic Development Fellowships
Queens University Belfast (QUB) have been awarded a Wellcome Trust ISSF (Institutional Strategic Support Fund) grant to provide clinical trainees, with the opportunity to enhance their training by conducting research projects in either ophthalmology or respiratory (including critical care) medicine. The projects will be led by QUB but partly embedded within the Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital. The “Academic Development Fellowships” (ADF) will last 4-6 months and are anticipated to provide a unique perspective on clinical research to get involved in a cross-institution collaborative project and gain insight into clinical research.
All activities must fall within the scientific or medical humanities remit of the Wellcome Trust.
The 4-6 month placements will be tailored those who have already been accepted into the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (NIMDTA) postgraduate deanery.
This opportunity will enable the successful candidates to engage with a QUB supervisor who will broker a collaboration and co-supervision with a colleague in the IoO/NIHL. Therefore, each F2 doctor will be supported by two mentors, one based at an Imperial/UCL and one based at QUB.
The scheme will cover travel, up to 4 months accommodation and project running costs. Flexibility will be paramount but we envisage that these awards would normally be for a minimum of four months in the first instance, up to a maximum value of £40,000.
