At the Balmoral Show 2023, demonstrations, interactives, and activities showcasing the innovative research and teaching in the WWIEM were showcased. A few research groups represented the Institute at the Balmoral Show this year. Virology research was well represented at the recent Balmoral Show, with excellent interaction with the public and opportunities to discuss our research with Michelle O’Neill MLA, 1st Minister Designate, and Claire Hanna MP. Rebecca Coll's lab showcased immunology research at the WWIEM, showing the public microscope specimens of immune tissue, discussing how different types of cells fight off infections and demonstrating how we grow and study these cells in the lab. Eleni Beli´s group participated in the Balmoral show, highlighting their work on diabetic retinopathy research.
