James Sloan
Grade 5 technician, education and research support in Digital Geography.
Jim joined Queens in 2018, working in the Welcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine as a grade 3 technician supporting all aspects of research. He joined SNBE in Oct 2023 as our Climate change Technician in Geography. His current role sees him overseeing the running of the laboratories based in the Elmwood Building and providing support to research and education in the physical Geography and Palaeoecology areas. Jim has a degree in Geology from University of Bristol and before joining Queens Jim worked as a technician in Grammar and Secondary schools as a laboratory technician, both of these aspects makes him ideal for this role with knowledge of the subject and experience in working with students.
Jim has an avid interest in Health and Safety and Well-being of colleagues. he is a trade union Health and Safety Representative and holds a NEBOSH National General certificate in Occupational H&S. Within the University he is secretary of the Joint Trade Union H&S Committee and sits on several H&S Committees at University level.
