Kenny McDonald
Grade 7 Technical Manager, overseeing all aspects of technical work in all labs and workshops in the school. Liaising with academics and researchers regarding project support work and materials.
Kenny joined Queens in 2002 as a grade E electronic technician supporting all education and research projects in Civil Engineering. Spent a lot of time in the first 2 years acclimatising and learning about a new type of electronics and data gathering equipment using an array of sensors, loggers and associated software. In 2008 progressed to a grade 6 technician with a speciality in strain gauging and associated data recording. In mid 2014 was asked to take on the role of interim Chief Technician for School of Planning Architecture and Civil Engineering and then subsequently was successful in attaining the permanent position in late 2014. Since then has been actively building a strong technical team environment within SPACE and then in SNBE from 2016 and promoting better communication, understanding and respect between technicians and academics/researchers alike. Has been active in promoting the University Technician Commitment since its formation in 2017 and sits regularly on groups pushing for change in the 4 pillars of the Technician Commitment program.
