Sean Loughran
Apprentice technician, education and research support in Environmental Soils.
Sean joined Queens in September 2023 as apart of 9 apprentices in a pilot programme across the University. He spends 2 days in Belfast Met college learning basic principles of Applied Science and general lab safety. The other 3 days he spends mostly in the Environmental Soils lab under the supervision of prestigious academics in this field. He is learning the basic principles of soil mechanics and the associated sensors used to measure effects of soils under a test environment. Part of the learning process is laboratory management and organisation and the cooperation with industry bodies that use the laboratory for evaluations of samples. He was self employed before joining Queens doing car body repairs, this has been useful in that Sean is thoughtful in his preparation and knows the benefit of being organised.
