Dr Siobhan Cox Gives TEDx Talk at 'TEDxQueensUniversityBelfast'
Dr Siobhan Cox, a Senior Lecturer in the School of Natural and Built Environment gave a TEDx talk at the ‘TEDxQueensUniversityBelfast’ event which took place at Riddel Hall on Wednesday 6 December 2023.
The event brought together community partners, staff, students and alumni of Queen’s to share inspiring new ideas on the theme of ‘Reimagine: Spark Your Imagination.’
Siobhan’s talk ‘Reimagining Construction: Building a better future’ reflects on how construction can be reimagined to provide not only social benefits, but also environmental advantages to help save our planet.
The talk was designed for a non-specialist audience, and Siobhan’s hope is that the stories contained within it will inspire people to question why we keep building the same things in the same way.
Siobhan calls on us all as users of the built environment to encourage development that:
- Wastes less
- Uses less new materials
- Uses more reused and natural materials
- Not just builds things better, but builds better things
In particular Siobhan talks about the work that SNBE colleagues are undertaking in the UPSURGE project which uses Nature Based Solutions that work in harmony with nature to restore rather than destroy our planet.
