Passionate Food Nutritionist graduates from Queen’s
Peter Gracey (22) from Belfast, is delighted to today graduate with a Masters in Food Chemistry and Taste Analysis before embarking on his next adventure in the USA.
Peter fought off stiff competition to be awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, which will take him to University of Florida for a fully funded two year Masters degree in Food Safety.
Peter says: “I’m delighted to be graduating today and really looking forward to what’s next. I’ve had some brilliant opportunities during my time at Queen’s, including work placements at both Marks and Spencer and Finnebrogue, where I got a real insight into working in the food industry. I’m really pleased to now have the opportunity to gain a Masters in USA so I can then pursue my ambition to work in the food industry.”
Peter is passionate about plant proteins and their use in vegan diets. His research focused on strategies to shift people to a more plant-based diet so he was delighted to have the opportunity to work at Finnebrogue vegan plant during his degree placement where he gained excellent insight into this industry.
After making his initial application for a Fulbright scholarship, Peter was then invited to present to a panel of experts the impact that his research proposal would have, before being awarded the scholarship.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Queen’s working with and learning from so many experts in the field of food safety. I’ve been fortunate to be in a position to decline a few jobs offers in the food industry so that I can continue my studies at the University of Florida. I hope to further strengthen my knowledge and experience in this area there, which will hopefully open more offers in the future enabling me to pursue my ambition to succeed in this field.”
