Course Accreditations
Accreditation offers students and employers a mark of quality assurance that the School meets stringent national and international standards. Many of the degree programmes we offer at the School of Biological Sciences and IGFS have been granted the prestigious status of being formally accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, The Institute of Food Science & Technology UK (IFST) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
See below to learn more about the accrediting bodies and our associated degree courses:
The Royal Society of Biology serves as a professional body for the biological sciences in the UK. It represents over 18,000 biologists from all areas of the life sciences, along with more than 100 organizations.
The society fulfills multiple roles, including advising the government and other public bodies, promoting educational activities and professional development for its members, and encouraging public interest and engagement with the life sciences.
Membership is inclusive, encompassing students at all levels, academics, scientists in industry, public policy and education, as well as individuals without a professional biology background but who have a keen interest in the field.
In addition to the added kudos that accreditation brings, graduates from the above courses will receive one year of free membership of the Royal Society of Biology at Associate level. This valuable membership opens up professional and knowledge-exchange networks, especially at a crucial time when starting out on a career.

IFST accreditation of degree programmes/courses provides a benchmark of the potential of a programme/course to offer students the best possible food-related education. In the context of this accreditation, "food-related" is used to refer to degrees related to food science and food technology.
Students are provided with the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enter employment in education, academic and industrial research, innovation, food production, processing & retailing, and the public sector within the broad context of food science and technology.
Accreditation is an assurance that the standards set by a profession are met. It is a quality mark or standard that helps an accredited food science/technology or related degree to stand out in the eyes of potential students (and their parents) and food-sector employers from other non-accredited programmes/courses. Accreditation can provide advantages when students from an accredited degree programme are seeking employment in the food sector.
Accredited Degree Courses:
RICS works in partnership with universities to ensure that each course is accredited to the professional industry standards. This means that successful completion of an accredited RICS degree will be recognised by employers as a benchmark of quality.
