In partnership with NOTA NI, QUB will host Dr Carol Carson who will speak to 'Sibling Abuse - A Problem for all the Family'. Abuse of siblings or other close family members not only impacts on the person harmed but also creates a crisis for the whole family system. Those with lived experience of being abused highlight that for many the reactions of their families affected them not only in the immediate aftermath of a disclosure, but for the rest of their lives. Supporting families to begin to find a way to heal together is essential.
Carol has 40 years’ experience in safeguarding children and specialising in HSB. She has written several books and articles on the subject, including the AIM Assessment model for Children under 12 years old; a children’s story for working with children aged 5 – 8 years old “Johnny and the Sparkles in his Pants”; and the AIM Autism and HSB Practice Guide. Carol has a Research PhD on Developing good practice in Autism and HSB from Queen’s University Belfast.
This event will be held at 6pm on Tuesday 5 November in the Great Hall, Lanyon Building, QUB.
