This 4-day, international, multi-disciplinary event examines the concept of adoptees' origin deprivation – the loss of genetic identity, natal ancestry, and familial kinship - from a variety of perspectives, both academic and NGO-led. The Korean Adoptee Adoption Research Network (KAARN) is a lead partner. Participants and speakers are drawn from the fields of law, literature, gender studies, philosophy, history, social welfare, and intercultural studies. They hail from South Korea, Canada, Sweden, Australia, Ireland, the UK, and the U.S. The symposium is free and open to the public (in hybrid form, in-person and online) and will be of interest to anyone interested in - or affected by - adoption, international or domestic.
