Event Speaker:
Dr. María Laura Böhm, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany
This online seminar will explore the causal relationship between the deregulation of economic activities at the international level and the damaging local effects that increase what is called "maldevelopment". Transnational corporations benefiting from increasing deregulation of their operations account for severe harm and unrelenting violations of human rights, especially in the Global South. The talk will introduce and discuss the conceptual category of maldevelopment within the field of criminology, making recommendations for further research and outlining a network of possible mechanisms for its prevention and punishment. Attention will be also paid to reparations for the satisfaction of the needs of victimised populations.
