Dr Pratyush Nath Upreti appointed as WHO Advisor
The School is pleased to congratulate Dr Pratyush Nath Upreti on his appointment as an intellectual property expert in a seven-member expert committee formed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) South-East Asia.
The expert committee will advise on the research project on the Development of Measles-Rubella Rapid Diagnostic (MR-RDT) Test Kits. Measles-Rubella (MR) elimination is the flagship programme of the WHO-South-East Asia region. The research project is a collaborative endeavour with the Faculty of Life Science and Biotechnology of South Asian University, the United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, and other partners of WHO South-East Asia.
The committee comprises seven members from different disciplines coming from the United States, India, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Bangladesh for a period of three years and are eligible for reappointment for a maximum of two tenures.
Dr Upreti said: "I feel really honoured to be appointed as an expert for World Health Organisation to advise on the research project Development of Measles-Rubella Rapid Diagnostic (MR-RDT) Test Kits. As a member of MR-RDT monitoring group, we will monitor the project and make recommendations. In my capacity, I will provide technical support to the work related to MR-RDT activities, in particular on intellectual property issues. I'm looking forward to contributing to this important project in South-East Asia."
