Spotlight: Our students giving back to the community: The Harmony Project.
We are proud to share the extra-curricular work our students at The School of Law engage in to enhance community life, from volunteering in Food Banks to Cross-Community work. Today, we shine a light on our second-year law student Olivia Feron's work for The Harmony Project.
The programme is designed to promote social cohesion across the island of Ireland by delivering a shared curriculum focusing on themes of Mental well-being, Climate Action and a 'From Conflict to Peace' peace-building unit of work.
Olivia kindly provided us with some words of reflection on the importance of the work undertaken by The Harmony Project, "The programme focuses on mental well-being, climate action, and peacebuilding, which are based on the principles of the Good Friday Agreement. It has been a privilege to be one of the co-designers of The Harmony Project and instrumental in getting it launched in 2023-2024. The design concept originated from the 2022 Washington Ireland Forum. As a member of the Forum's winning group, I am delighted to see The Harmony Project emerge as a new and independent programme in collaboration with Tackle Your Feelings and Rugby Players, Ireland. It has also been fantastic to see schools in the North and South of Ireland embrace this social innovation and all the students getting involved.
The programme includes a letter-writing project where each school would write letters to their partner school across the border, reflecting on their experience engaging in the programme and forging new friendships."
This sounds like a very worthwhile initiative, Olivia, especially your aim to build mutual understanding in our communities. It is our privilege to share in your work and achievements. More generally, it is great to see our students contributing to society alongside their students. Thank you very much for sharing the story of your outreach project with our school.
