Professor of Law in Queen's from 1995 to 2019, Norma has served as head of the law school and dean of faculty.  She held a British Academy Senior Research Fellowship in 2005-2006 and a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship in 2015-2017.  She was President of the Irish Legal History Society in 2009-2012. She is an honorary Bencher (NI) and was awarded CBE in 2017 for services to legal education and the development of the legal profession.
