Why Law at Queen's
The School of Law at Queen's provides students with a wide range of teaching and learning experiences that will develop and enhance the skills and personal attributes they need to pursue a successful career in a variety of professions.
The school is based in a modern state of the art building at the heart of the campus. The building is the centre of the student experience, from the student hub on the ground floor to the bookable student study rooms, interactive Moot Court and our Digital Studio, the building is a shared flexible space. Throughout the academic year staff and students meet, formally and informally, to share and exchange ideas and knowledge.
As a research-intensive University, our courses are informed by the latest developments in research. Academics working in the Law School research across a range of diverse areas, reflecting both traditional and contemporary legal scholarship. These include human rights and public law; law, innovation and technology; criminology and criminal justice; (4) private and commercial law; (5) European and transnational studies; and (6) transitional justice.
We provide a range of opportunities for students to engage with employers and develop their skills. Employer engagement is a key strength of our courses, whether it be through placement opportunities, or through employer workshops on campus. We support a range of activities that give students the opportunity to expand their skillset from Mooting and Streetlaw to LawPod and The Global Skills Project.
The school has developed relationships with Colleges and Universities throughout the world and has an active exchange programme. Students can broaden their horizons with an exciting exchange experience to a wide range of international (USA, China, Canada and Australia) and European partner institutions (Erasmus+).
Alongside University opportunities we have a range of law specific awards, bursaries and international travel opportunities for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. This allows our students to make the most of their university experience. Awards are given for a number of reasons such as outstanding academic performance (LA Externship), to provide mentoring and internship opportunities or to develop employability skills.
Within the school students can get a feel for a legal career and improve their research and presentations skills through our Streetlaw, Mooting and Global Skills programmes. The wider University also provides great extracurricular opportunities for students. Whatever your interests over 200 student led clubs and societies offer the perfect opportunity to meet new people and develop your skills at the same time. The Student Law Society is one of the most successful Clubs in the University.
