Artificial Intelligence as a Health Intervention for Managing Patient Discharge Decision Processes
In 2013 Invest NI committed to create a number of multi-million-pound business research centres, in key business areas, through the establishment of industry led competence centres. The Connected Health Innovation Centre (CHIC) is a competence centre that focuses on the Connected Health market. This research focuses on exploring and developing mechanisms for effective management of patient discharge decision making processes that can be used as an Artificial Intelligence tool to advance the state-of-the-art in the healthcare sector.
Biography:
Coming from Sri Lanka, I have completed my B.Sc. (Honours) in Computer Science degree at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka with a First Class and graduated in September 2019. I have earned the Bachelor in Information Technology (External) degree (2014-2017) from the University of Colombo School of Computing, Sri Lanka, in December 2017.
I have published 5 conference papers from some of my research work, one of which earned the “Best Research Paper Presented” award at the International Conference on Advances in Computing and Technology held in 2018 organized by the Faculty of Computing and Technology, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. In addition, my final year research project at University of Sri Jayewardenepura, which was an artificial intelligence programme that generates original musical melodies when provided with an lyrical input, won the Silver Award under the “Tertiary Student Project (Technology)” category at National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA) 2018 and won the Gold Award under the “Tertiary Student Project” category at Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2018 held in Guangzhou, China. In 2019, I was awarded the CSSL ICT Student of the Year (Tertiary) Award 2019 by the Computer Society of Sri Lanka, for my all-round excellence in academics and extra-curricular activities.
I have also engaged in several extra-curricular skills, with the most recent been volunteering in the capacity of Co-Chair for the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Student/ Young Professionals/ Women in Engineering Congress 2018. Further, I have involved myself with UNICEF Youth by presenting the "Voice of Youth" at the UNICEF South Asia Youth Skills and Solutions Forum held in Mumbai, India, in December 2019.
